Oral Biology Student Club
Our first meeting was in Oct 28, 2005 at 5 p.m.
The agenda for the first meeting was to decide what we would like to do as a club, to discuss funding opportunities from GSA, and to introduce helpful forms and website information.
The Oct 28, 2005 meeting minutes:
1. Dr. Bobek gave very informative introduction to the mandatory steps as graduate student in the department (required forms, committee meetings). Every student received information package. To request the package contact Slavena or directly Dr. Bobek.
2. The meeting schedule for academic year 2005-2006 was created. The proposed schedule is based on the annual budget of $ 417 and is as follows:

February 2006 - St. Valentine's day potluck party
March 2006 - Sweet Day potluck party
May 2006 - End of semester party with pizza and pop

4. GSA funding opportunities were discussed.
Our second meeting was on November 17, 2005. We celebrated Thanksgiving.
We have decided that we would like to invite professor from UB or other institution to discuss career
opportunities. Beppe suggested to invite visiting professor from Italy to discuss career/research
opportunities in Europe/abroad.

March, 2006: We recently met with Saaket Svarma from the Biochemistry Department to discuss the idea
for the Biomedical Periodical from the students and for the students in UB.
We are planning to meet with Dr. Scannapieco at the end of March, 2006 and discuss career options and
career decisions after graduation. More to follow...
April, 2006: Students are too busy with the exams and Dr. Scannapieco schedule is tight. We decided to
have an end of semester party in May.
Students in Oral Biology will actively participate in developing the new Biologue, a peer-reviewed biological
journal from and for the graduate students. We are responsible for the website of the journal.
May 13, 2006: Oral Biology picnic in Ellicott Creek Park. Grilling, partying, games - we had lots of FUN!
